This weekend I traveled to Louisville with my mom to attend the annual Miss Kentucky County Fair pageant. This was a apecial trip for me because it was one of the first pageant related trips I’ve taken since handing down the title. As you may know, I absolutely adore traveling. So I had been looking forward to this weekend at the Galt House for a while. However, it was even more special because I knew I would get to visit with my friends I’ve made throughout the year through pageants. Some people don’t believe that pageant competitors really do form close bonds, but we do! I suppose we just have special similarities and interests that make up feel like we’ve known each other for all our lives.

Two years ago I represented my home of Boyle County at this pageant. I feel blessed to have been selected as the Miss Kentucky County Fair 2008 that year. I recall this pageant as one of the most fun pageants I’ve competed in, mostly because of the many other sweet contestants. I still remember watching this pageant as my sister competed as Miss Teen Boyle County in 2001. Although it took two years for me to grow the confidence to compete in a pageant, watching the teen version of this pageant is what originally got me interested in pageantry. I wonder where I would be today if I hadn’t simply gone to watch her compete!

As far as the results go, our girls represented Danville wonderfully Elizabeth Reynolds placed in the top 15 as she represented the Boyle County Fair. Allison Carrol (who is from Danville but was representing Marion County), placed 3rd runner up among the 82 contestants! They both couldn’t have competed better. I was so honored and bragged about them a lot :) .

Before the night was over, I had spent time with my past dress sponsor, personal trainer, and the new Miss Kentucky USA. It was a very enjoyable weekend to remember!

P.S. I would like to send a specific shout-out to my uncle Jack,  who I feel is my most devoted blog reader. Your healing from surgery is in my thoughts and prayers!

Hi Maria! My daughter will be competing in the Miss Boyle County Fair pageant on Monday the 31st. Do you have any tips/hints to help us prepare? Thanks in Advance!

Hi! I’m so excited your daughter will be competing! The best piece of advice I can give is for her to simple have a good time. A lot of times girls get caught up with competing and forget to have fun. However, the girls who have a good time and have fun show it on stage with their presence, smiles and etc. It’s also very important to have this energy of having a good time during interviews, even more so than on stage. I’ve judged pageants where some adorable girls didn’t do well because they didn’t seem excited to be in the interview or there at all. These tips go with all pageants, not just the boyle county pageant. I don’t know who the judges even will be tomorrow, so I don’t have input on that. But be sure to stop me and let me know if you need anything at all! Thanks for reading! Hope to see you tomorrow!

My daughter is nine years old and she has a dress for the Little Miss county fair pageant and I’m wondering if it’s appropriate. Should she wear a dress that is long or does it matter?

    • maria says:

Hi Melissa! Most girls in pre-teen divisions and up for the county fair systems do tend to wear floor length gowns. However, if your daughter is uncomfortable with this, I’m sure whatever you all decide on will be great! The most important thing is her confidence and that she has fun! Hope this helps!

Hi, Im Julia! Im 12 years old and I would like to partisapate in the Co. fair pageant this year. How do I?

    • maria says:

Hi Julia! I’m so excited that you want to compete in the pageant. I’m assuming you are referring to the Boyle County Fair right? If so, I’d go to the fair’s website at http://www.boylecofair.org and there should be a contact number for the pageant representative, or anyone on the fair board. Contact them and they will lead you through the process. I don’t believe I’m helping with the pageant this year, so I may not be able to help you in entering very much. If you are referring to other county fair pageants, they also have websites usually with contact information. At http://kafs.net/pageants/list.php?tid=3&year=2011 you will also find a list of all the pageants and their dates. Double check that the right date is listed as there are sometimes mistakes. If you click on the fair, it should give you information about if the pageant is open (meaning girls from other counties can enter even if you don’t live in that county) and how to enter. Hope this helps! Blessings!

hi i am megan and im 12 and i want to be in the marion county fair pageant i dont know what to do or wear. O yeah and i have never did a pageant in my life :) Can you help me or give me some tips?

    • maria says:

hi Megan! I’m happy to hear you’re wanting to do the Marion County pageant! If you go to http://www.kafs.net/pageants/index.php you can find information on the county fair pageants across Kentucky along with the contact person for each pageant. I would recommend giving them a call and asking for more information. Some of them have rules about what to wear for girls that are younger. However, I’d overall not focus on getting something extremely expensive, but instead focus on wearing something that you simply feel fabulous in. I’m sure you’ll do wonderful if you just be yourself, have faith, pray, and have fun! Let me know how it goes!

Hi Ms. Cooper! I’m so glad you took time out of your day to read my website! That means a lot to me! Allison is a special girl and deserves much more than what I wrote :) Thank you for your constant support and kindness over the years!

Hi! Thanks so much for reading my blog and writing a comment! Do you mind if I ask what you disagree with? I am just curious and there isn’t a way for me to know what you’re referring to. Thanks! Have a blessed day!
